We offer a free 15-minute phone call to discuss your needs and explain what to expect from counselling and in the therapy room. This helps you get a feel for the service and gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
When you arrive for an in-person session, your therapist will meet you at the door and you will walk to the therapy room together. The room is set up like a comfortable sitting room to help you feel at ease. Toilets are available in the corridor, and there are hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) and water available in the therapy room.
There are plenty of resources in the room that we can use in our sessions if helpful. Free parking is available in the car park behind the building.
You have full autonomy to choose how you would like to access counselling, online and telephone sessions make therapy more accessible particularly if you have a busy life or difficulties with mobility.
For online sessions, you will be sent a Zoom link, and if you’re feeling anxious we can do a test call beforehand to ensure everything works. Telephone sessions allow you to have therapy from the comfort of your own space. We can switch between telephone and video calls based on your preference. Please ensure you have a quiet, comfortable, and confidential space for our sessions.
I use integrative counselling, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches to best suit your needs. I work with adult individuals, children (ages 10-13), young people (ages 13-18), and couples.
One to one: Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Couples: Each session lasts 75 minutes
Usually, we start with weekly sessions. As you progress, we might decide together to meet less frequently. It really depends on what works best for you.
Fortnightly sessions can be arranged if weekly sessions are inaccessible due to finances.
There's no one-size-fits-all answer here. Some people find a few sessions work for them, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. We'll regularly review your progress and decide together.
Absolutely. Everything you share is confidential, with a few rare exceptions that I'll explain in our first session. These are mainly about keeping you and others safe.
Life happens! I ask for 24 hours' notice for cancellations. If you provide less than 24 hours' notice, you will still be charged for the session.
We have a limited number of reduced-rate slots available. If you feel that the fee restricts you from accessing the service we can discuss this in the initial consultation.
Good question! The terms are often used interchangeably. Generally, counselling focuses on specific issues and is often shorter-term, while psychotherapy might explore deeper into long-standing issues and early childhood. An integrative approach incorporates both.
Absolutely! It's completely normal to feel nervous. Starting therapy is a big step. Remember, our first session is about getting to know each other. There's no pressure to explore further until you feel comfortable and ready. We will always follow your pace.
